Everything is so clear and vivid, your emotions, thoughts, actions, people (those you know and those you don’t), the changing scenarios, things which you would never dream of doing, well this is your only chance to do what you think you cant! Yet when you wake up, you remember them in bits and pieces and you never know how it all started. Even if you think hard you still don’t remember. But it all felt so real…. some thing fascinating to think about. Why does this happen? Almost every night? A sense of freedom and infinity!…
Research still hasn’t reached any conclusion as to why we dream. We usually have multiple dreams when we are in stage of deep sleep called REM (Rapid eye movement sleep). That when your eyes flutter under the eyelids when you are in deep sleep. During a typical lifespan, a person spends a total of about six years dreaming (which is about two hours of series of different dreams each night). Most dreams only last 5 to 20 minutes even though you might feel as if you dreamed an entire day and night!! It is unknown where in the brain dreams originate, if there is a single origin for dreams or if multiple portions of the brain are involved, or what the purpose of dreaming is for the body or mind.
Now it is difficult to recall dreams for some people and some can easily remember them when they get up. I guess the reason why people remember them is when they get up in the middle of a dream or wake up immediately after a dream.
Have you been in dream where you know you are dreaming? Well those are called Lucid dreams. Its happened a couple of times to me too, where in the dream, in a serious situation I assure myself that I know I am dreaming. These are called Lucid dreams. These also seem real and start normally like other dreams. You don’t realise you are dreaming until towards the end of the dream.
Have you ever had Dream within a dream? Like A false awakening? This is also a vivid dream about awakening from sleep. After a false awakening we often dream like we are doing our regular routine. This usually happens during the day time. Like you wake up, but then you decide you want to sleep for 10 more minutes, but subconsciously you are aware that you have to get up in 10 minutes. You fall asleep and immediately start dreaming and imagine that after a while you have woken up or some one’s waking you up and you aren’t able to open your eyes. You think its all in reality till your alarm rings! And you realise the 10 minute nap is over and you were asleep! Hasn’t this happened to you?? The experience is sometimes called a double dream, or a dream within a dream!!
I have a never-ending fascination with dreams! and I plan to record all of them… I found these interesting pictures which depict most my dark dreams! Happy dreaming!
